Applying AOCS Cd29f-2021 / ISO 18363-4:2021 to emulsifiers and other matrices than oils and fats: Are adaptions necessary?

Abstract: In April 2022 the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) approved AOCS Cd29f-2021 for publication, which can be used to quantify MCPD- and glycidyl esters in edible oils. The method has been extensively validated through both AOCS and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for application on edible oils but other matrices due to a lack of data are excluded from the scope.
This work presents data of an investigation on the applicability of the new standard method on such matrices, like emulsifiers, fish oils and others. Initial comparison data with an external reference lab will be included, together with suggestions to adapt the method to broaden the scope if necessary.
