Microplastic compliant novel polymeric dispersant for seed treatment applications

Abstract: An overview of a new polymeric dispersant for seed coatings is provided. Many polymers used in seed coatings today will likely be phased out in European countries in the coming years due to microplastic regulations.1 Seed coatings are often combined with seed treatment formulations to improve flowability and dust-off properties.2 There is a clear need for new polymers that meet microplastic regulations and sustainability needs. Here, we introduce a new polymer STEP-FLOW® T6, a 3-tail nonionic polymer that functions as both a dispersant and coating for seed treatment and coating formulations. Compared to a competitive benchmark and an internally developed latex polymer, STEP-FLOW T6 shows similar or improved flowability and dust-off properties of coated seeds and can serve as a viable replacement for traditional coating polymers.
