This session will examine high-temperature screw pressing or solvent extraction of vegetable oils, which often contain vegetable waxes that crystallize during cooling. A talk will explore processes developed to remove waxes from oils. A presenter will address sunflower seed hulls inhibiting oil collection and describe mechanical dehulling, sorting, aspiration, and optical sorting to guarantee 100% purity. Also, the high oil content of sunflower seeds means mechanical extraction is always a key part of sunflower oil production, but solvent extraction can be included. The session will discuss strategies to measure, record, and optimize these processes.
