Alkyl polyglucosides are sugar-based surfactants that are renewable substitutes for their petroleum-based counterparts. This session will discuss adsorption at solid–liquid interfaces, micellization, and phase behavior. A presenter will discuss the hydrolysis of a high ( >80%) lactonic sophorolipid sample that resulted in a greater than 80% linear sophorolipid mixture while retaining most acetylated species. The session will also examine sophorolipid surfactant formulations for the solubilization of essential oils and a breakthrough that has led Dow to bring a new class of biosurfactants to market.
