This session will examine an innovative process to use soapstock, the free fatty acid removed from crude oil, to produce hydrocarbons with dimerized fatty acids. This process could be used to design a reaction system that promotes the separation of hydroxyl ion. A talk will explore how trehalose amphiphiles can be used as oil structuring agents to prepare gel-based lip balms. Also, waste fat may contain contaminants that foul catalysts. A talk will discuss two purification methods that convert waste fat into antimicrobial agents.
