Dr. Anusha Samaranayaka is a research scientist at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). Her main focus is on food processing in the plant-based protein space to support the NRC Sustainable Protein Production (SPP) global innovation cluster program and its academic and industry collaborators.
Anusha obtained her Ph.D. in Food Science from the University of British Columbia, Canada. She has over 12 years of experience working as a process scientist and a researcher in plant-based protein area. Anusha’s expertise includes process development to extract proteins using various dry and wet fractionation techniques, laboratory and pilot scale testing of processes for commercial validation, sustainability and process economics evaluation, functionality and quality assessment, and creation of protein ingredients and co-products for various food, nutraceutical, feed, and other industrial applications. Her expertise also extends to the area of food flavors, food product formulation, and sensory assessment.
Anusha has built great relationships with the industry, academia, and organizations involved in plant-based protein production and working actively at NRC in advancing the scientific research and commercialization of protein ingredients and co-products.
