Navam Hettiarachchy, Ph.D. is University Professor in Food Science at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR. She earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry (Molecular genetics), Hull University, England; M.S. in Biochemistry (Clinical Enzymology) University of Edinburgh Medical School, Scotland; and B.SC in Chemistry, Madras University, India. She has experience for five years in food industry. She developed and taught seven food science courses and currently teaching a senior level course in Food Products Development Innovation, and two graduate level courses: 1. Protein Chemistry and Functionality in Food System and, 2. Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods. Her research interests are in the area of proteins, bioactives, and natural phytochemicals that utilize interdisciplinary approaches towards the development of enabling technologies and processes with innovation and value addition. She is a resource Professor to Japan involved in the dissemination of scientific expertise and training food science related courses to 18 Asian countries. She has won numerous teaching and research awards. She has 6 patents and over 600 peer reviewed journal publications, presentations (82 invited), abstracts, and book chapters and co-edited 3 books on proteins. She is an active member of proteins and co-products division of AOCS. She is the past President of IFT-AAFSIS, and Cancer Cell Consortium (Arkansas) and has served/serving in many leadership positions including the Chair of Research Reproducibility and Replicability Committee at the University of Arkansas, and as a Director of IFT Phi Tau Sigma. Currently she serves as an editorial member in three journals and holds memberships in IFT and AOCS. She is an IFT and IUFoST Fellow.
