I am currently a Professor in the School of Biosystems and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Health Science, Korea University. I hold MSc and PhD in the Food Science department, Korea University. From 1985 to 1997, I worked as a researcher at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), the Korea Food Research Institute (KFRI), and USDA-ARS-NCAUR. From 1997, I joined the School of Food Engineering at Korea University. I have also visited the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2004 to 2005 as a visiting professor. My research interests mainly lie in oleochemistry and can be classified into three sections. The first section is to synthesize functional food lipids using enzymatic technology. The second is to produce non-food oleochemicals such as biodiesel, biolubricant, plasticizer, etc. The third section is to extract bioactive components such as tocopherol, phytosterol, squalene, etc. Overall, my research has been focusing on the various researches of oleochemistry.
