Professor
University of Tennessee
Knoxville, Tennessee, United States
As a Professor in the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, The University of Tennessee, X. Philip Ye teaches subjects of “Mass & Energy in Biosystems” and “Bioprocess Engineering”. His research focuses on the interface between biological systems and engineering processes to enhance the conversion of biorenewables into energy, chemicals, and materials. His research works synergistically with his long-term educational goal aspiring to train next generation of engineers who will bring together bio-sciences and process engineering to enable the use of renewable fuels, chemicals, and materials, and to protect our environment. Taking systematic approaches combining analytical techniques and engineering principles to address prioritized needs in the bioprocess engineering of bioenergy and biobased products, his recent research interests include:
• investigation of physicochemical properties of renewable resources
• green process development for biofuels and biochemicals
• fundamental and applied catalysis in biomass conversion
• advanced instrumentation in bioprocessing
He is serving as an associate editor for the Journal of American Oil Chemists’ Society.
