Tuan Noor Maznee Tuan Ismail, PhD
Head, Synthesis & Product Development Unit
Advanced Oleochemical Technology Division, Malaysian Palm Oil Board.
A results-oriented hands-on material scientist with a successful record of technical knowledge in research and development of renewable oleochemical ingredients especially in syntheses of palm-based polyols, polyester polyols of designated molecular weights, polyurethane foams (flexible and rigid foams) and polyurethane non-foams (coatings, adhesives, and elastomers). Strong technical experience, with a track record of more than 20 years in improving palm-based polyols production process, developing new polyurethane products using palm-based polyols and polyester polyols, and converting waste into value-added products (converting used cooking oil into polyol and polyurethane products). She has been appointed as a Head of the Synthesis and Product Development Unit (SPD) in the Advanced Oleochemical Technology Division (AOTD) since 2020.
She has filed nine patents, published 40 research articles in indexed and refereed journals, three in non-refereed publications, and presented three oral and 26 poster presentations. Her innovations have won various local and international invention, innovation, and technology awards (18 awards). Her recent publications are on the structure-property relationship of palm-based polyols and polyester polyols in solid polyurethanes, low-density rigid polyurethane foam incorporated with renewable polyol as sustainable thermal insulation material, and the effect of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate index on physicomechanical and morphological properties of palm olein-based viscoelastic polyurethane foams. She has also been invited to review research articles by the Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Industrial Crops and Products, BioResources, and Journal of Polymers and the Environment editors.
