Senior Director, Downstream
C16 Biosciences
New York, NY, United States
Dr. Alexandre Chapeaux is a chemical engineer with over 15 years of experience developing and optimizing fermentation and chemical processes for commercial applications. At the start of his career, he developed processes to sequester CO2 using Ionic liquids and to recover solvents such as butanol from aqueous solutions. While at the National Bioenergy Center at NREL, he worked on the team developing cellulosic ethanol at lab and pilot scale, achieving the DOE cost targets in 2012. Moving into industry, he has developed and scaled fermentation and purification processes to produce ingredients for the personal care and food markets. He led the process development teams at P2 Science, JUST, Inc. and the Every Company. At P2 Science, he designed and built that company’s pilot facility, and led the purification and recovery of all its novel ingredients. At JUST, he oversaw the process development of its novel plant protein for its egg products. While at the Every Company, he successfully developed and manufactured that company’s first two products: the animal free Pepsin and the soluble protein. Currently at C16, Dr. Chapeaux manages the development of C16’s oil extraction and purification processes, and has been responsible for scaling these processes to manufacturing scale. Dr. Chapeaux is an author of several peer-reviewed scientific publications and an inventor on several issued and pending US patents. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Syracuse University (2004), a M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (2008, 2009).
