Name: Rahel Suchintita Das.
I am a PhD Research Scholar registered at the School of Agriculture and Food Science, University College Dublin (UCD), Dublin, Ireland and carrying out my research work in Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown, Ireland. The title of my thesis is Algal bio-refinery and I am working with Dr. Marco Garcia-Vaquero (UCD, Dublin) and Prof. (Dr.) Brijesh Tiwari (Teagasc, Ashtown) who are my PhD superviors. My project aims to sustainably exploit seaweeds off the Irish coast, either wild harvested or aquacultured, for extraction of bioactive compounds with more emphasis towards protein, using novel technologies such as ultrasound, microwave, hydro-dynamic cavitation and high pressure. Macroalgal proteins, post extraction will be hydrolysed to yield peptides with potential bioactivity that can be used to formulate food products.Besides, I have completed my graduation and post graduation in Food Engineering and Technology from India and also have worked as an Assistant Professor in an Engineering college for 3 years in India teaching subjects on Food technology to undergraduate students. I have additionaly worked as a Research and Development executive in a consumer goods company in India for a brief period. I love to look in to newer avenues to sustainably provide resources, primarliy food to the global population.
