More sensitive methods are needed to accurately quantify lipid oxidation products, especially in hydroperoxides. A talk will focus on the triphenylphosphine assay of lipid hydroperoxides for quality control, shelf-life analyses, and basic research. The session will also discuss a green, no-solvent approach to convert tomato processing waste into a stable, free-flowing powder that makes handling, storage, and transportation convenient. Also, de-oiled canola meal contains a wide array of phenolic compounds, including sinapine and sinapic acid. Microwave-assisted solvent extraction enhanced the yield of canolol, improving the antioxidant activity of the extracts and producing natural phenolic derivatives.
