Secilia Garza is a graduate research assistant in the Brenna lab at the University of Texas at Austin. There, she is developing analytical methods utilizing mass spectrometry to characterize and monitor the effects of oxidized phospholipids in neurodegenerative models and their mitigation by deuterium-reinforced polyunsaturated fatty acids. Secilia is also working on methodology towards quantification of complex lipid profiles using an innovative approach that implements the principles of combinatorial chemistry to determine relative percent of each phospholipid in a pool, resulting in a known analytical standard mixture.
