The Herbert J. Dutton Award of the AOCS Analytical Division recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the analysis of fats, oils, and related products. The session will examine methods that bring together older technologies in new ways: liquid chromatography–gas chromatography (LC-GC) is being paired with two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC-GC) to characterize complex samples; and automation has accelerated analysis, method selection, and system optimization by pairing fast GC–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and normal-phase LC-MS. Also during this session, direct infusion of analytical standards has produced results that highlight the potential of cyclic ion mobility mass spectrometry.
